robin williams zeldaNintendo has responded to the near 100,000 fans who have signed the Change.org petition trying to get Robin Williams’ name into the next Legend of Zelda game.

Polygon reports that it has gotten an official response from the big N in regards to the fans rallying to get Robin Williams included in some form in the next Legend of Zelda game, which is coming to Wii U. Williams was a big fan of video games, naming his firstborn daughter “Zelda” because of his love of the 1986 classic NES title. As of now, the petition is just a few hundred signatures short of 100,000. The petition begs Nintendo to name a non-playable character in the next Legend of Zelda title “Robin” to pay tribute to the game-loving actor. Zelda Williams, now 25 years old, previously worked with Nintendo with her father, starring in a few promotional videos.

“Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo.” a Nintendo representative told Polygon. “Our hearts go out to his entire family and especially to Zelda Williams, who we’ve worked with multiple times.

“We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”

We recently reported that Blizzard is planning to memorialize Robin Williams in World of Warcraft, as Williams was an avid player of the MMORPG.
